Is Education a Luxury?

How many of us have taken our education for granted? I for one, remember faking being sick so I could stay home and watch movies, or complaining on a Sunday night how I did not want to go to school the next day. But, for many around the world, going to school is not a right, it’s a luxury. This is true for Haiti.

Over 90% of schools in Haiti are privately run, and schools that are subsidized by the government still require parents to purchase books and uniforms. Many parents struggle to spend approximately 60% of their income on tuition, and with multiple children this becomes more and more difficult. These obstacles are what keep many Haitians from the opportunity to finish school.

At Share Hope, we run an after-work program for 40 workers per academic year that want to finish high school and get their diploma. Our slogan is “Finish What You Started”, because we believe that by reaching goals we never believed we could reach, we are able to take pride in ourselves, our work, and our achievements.

By purchasing Share Hope leggings or donating to our nonprofit, you are supporting the High School Completion Program and many other life-changing opportunities. We are so grateful for you.
